Death toll rises to 31 as 'deadly cold' storm hits US

A severe winter storm has gripped the US and at least 31 people have lost their lives so far.

 Buffalo, New York's second largest city at the time Buffalo, the second largest city in New York, is currently in a critical situation where a snow storm has engulfed the city.

 Eight feet (2.4 m) of snow is falling in Buffalo and there are power outages.  In these situations, rescue personnel are unable to reach the most affected areas.

 He told reporters on Sunday evening that residents were still facing an "extremely life-threatening situation".  He warned people to stay indoors.

More than 200,000 people in several eastern states celebrated Christmas without power and many had their holiday travel plans cancelled.

 Thirty-one deaths have been confirmed in nine states, including four fatalities due to the severe cold 

New York Governor Kathy Hochol said that the blizzard of 2022 will be talked about not only today, but for generations.  This storm has surpassed the historic blizzard of 1977 in intensity.

 More than 2,400 U.S. flights were canceled Sunday because of the storm, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com.  Also, around 3,500 flights were canceled on Saturday and 6,000 on Friday.



 Airports including Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Detroit and New York were stranded on Christmas Day.

 About 1.7 million people were without power on Saturday, according to Project PowerOutage.US, which reports on the power situation in the United States.
